Sound, is the echo of silence! It is a type of energy made by vibrations. When an object vibrates, it causes movement in surrounding air molecules, when air molecules vibrate and move in a pattern it is called waves, or sound waves. When a wave is created, the distance between one compression and the next compression is called the wavelength. The faster the sound waves pass a given point, the shorter the wavelength and the higher the frequency. Frequency describes the number of waves that pass a fixed place in a given amount of time.
Frequency is expressed in units of hertz (Hz) which is equivalent to one (event) per second. The corresponding period is the time duration of one cycle in a repeating event, so the period is the reciprocal of the frequency.
The Therapeutic use of sound and scientific studies show that sound waves have a positive impact on our brainwaves and could be a way to manage a variety of health concerns that play a role in reducing anxiousness, managing pain, and improving cognitive function.
